-Discuss “Advances in Genetics” explaining how organisms can reproduce with desired traits.-pages 418-425.
-Briefly discuss “Genetic counseling and dealing with genetic disorders page 423.

Students work in pairs to answer 10 questions on the lesson
Tuesday, November 19th, 2013- Read advances in Genetics. List three ways of producing organisms with desired traits.
-Discuss selective breeding, cloning, and genetic engineering. Page 425
-Explain inbreeding and hybridization. Page 426
-Describe cloning Page 427
-Discuss genetic engineering. Page 427
-Explain how genetic engineering enters bacteria Page 428
Activities
-Students will examine the three ways of producing organisms with desired traits.
-In pairs, students will assess their understanding of lesson by answering questions on cloning; examining two different colored roses for hybridnation, and “changing rice production application- page 427 in the textbook.

-Begin discussion of Using Genetic Information-Pages 430
-Explain the human genome and advanced fingerprinting page 431.
-Discuss genetic discrimination and ethics
- Reading from technology source and teacher provided text on advances in genetics

-Students elaborate and explain the tools they would use to determine the chances that they may have inherited
a genetic disease from family members.
- Students discuss in groups the use of pedigrees, karyotypes, and genetic testing.
